Why Meditate? The Benefits of Meditation

As Deepak Chopra, MD, explains in his book, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga, meditation is essential to quiet the turbulence of the mind.

Specialists calculate that the human mind processes 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts in a day. This activity in your mind is communicated to each cell in your body and if your thoughts are triggered by excessive stress, the body responds to it as a threat or as Fight or Flight responses, which increases your levels of cortisol and adrenaline. Therefore, the more stress you accumulate, the more chaotic and inefficient your mind and body will become. During meditation, your mind and body shift to a peaceful state that is messaged to your tissues and organs, your biochemistry improves, and self-repair can occur.

The peaceful awareness achieved during meditation can improve your wellbeing and there are many scientific studies supporting these benefits for your mind and body.

The physical benefits of meditation include:

• Improve mental health and anxiety

• Improve body’s self-repair mechanisms

• Decrease blood pressure and heart rate

• Reduce inflammation

• Lower cholesterol levels

• Increase the production of enzyme telomerase, which slows the aging process

• Improve quality of sleep and immune system

In addition, Meditation also offers a way to discover your real Self and provides the gates for more creativity, peace, happiness, and joy. For more information about Primordial Sound Meditation please contact us or access The Chopra Center.
